Ajay Chopra: Executive Chef The Westin – Mumbai
May 12th, 2012 by Harilein Sabarwal - Trend Forecast AnalystAjay Chopra – The Masterchef
India may have developed but she certainly has not changed. She cradles assets that other nations look to develop – a plethora of exquisite food. Each cuisine that India has to offer stems from the heritage and culture she possess. India is nothing but the culmination of different ideologies which is well represented on the plate. For the longest time, this remained hidden away from the rest of the world but brilliant culinary artists like Ajay Chopra look to change that, dramatically.
Starting young, Ajay began his career with the Cecil Oberoi Hotel in Shimla. Sensing that there is more to achieve, he never thought twice before opting for a management training program at the Oberoi Center for Learning and Development OCLD. Coming through as a gold medalist – an achievement that is only an estimate of the high standard he sets, Ajay found his niche at an Indian specialty restaurant – Kandahar Oberoi, New Delhi. Never failing to amaze, Ajay later wore top hat at the Lotus Café JW Marriott and boiled his way up the ranks as Chef de Cuisine at Saffron an Indian specialty restaurant.
To add even more spice to his life, Ajay started his chain of restaurants in the U.K and became the Executive Head Chef of the acclaimed Mint Leaf chain of restaurants, which specialized in Indian cuisine. Holding his own with top chefs like Gordon Ramsey and Angela Harnet, Ajay Chopra contemporized the Indian cuisine; one ingredient at a time. He is
truly a wonderful ambassador for the nation and his food itself paints his story.
Best known by the Indian audience as the winner of Masterchef India 2 there more to come from this dynamic personality. A fun loving, jovial and resilient Ajay loves experimenting with new techniques and ingredients all the time. He aims to put the Indian food culture into the progressive domain by constantly redefining the boundaries that man this mesmerizing cuisine. His wizardry as the Executive chef is on showcase currently at the Westin Mumbai Garden City.
A Masterchef like Ajay Chopra lays the pavement for the next generation of Indian chefs, who add a pinch of modernity to the time less art of Indian cooking.
